NORMAN'S BIO

With high school behind me I headed to Bridgewater, Virginia to attend Bridgewater College, Virginia’s first coeducational college, where I earned my Batcher of Arts degree.  With that in hand, I then attended the University of Virginia and received a Master of Arts degree.

I spent the bulk of my working years with the U.S. Treasury Department working for the Internal Revenue Service in Richmond, Virginia Beach and Atlanta.  I retired from the Treasury Department in 2001, as a senior level manager.  For the past twelve years I have been teaching at Lee Davis High School.  (2001-2014)

My wife, Mary Wallace, graduated from James Madison University.  After college she taught school for 35 years, retiring in the year 2000.  Mary and I have three sons and three grandsons and all live in and around the Richmond, Virginia, area.  Last October, 2013, Mary and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. Mary and I have jointly taught youth and adult classes at the Fairfield Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsville, Virginia, for 30 years.

I was a volunteer Reserve Deputy Sheriff in Hanover County from 1982-2006.  Since 2006 I have served as Legislative Director, on a part-time basis, for Virginia House Delegate, Chris Peace.  From 1985-1993, I served on the Hanover County School Board.  In 2001 I was appointed to another four year term.

Activities in the community include 10 years as a Jaycee and 32 years with the Mechanicsville, Virginia, Ruritan Club.  Also, I spent 33 years as a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and 10 Years with the Masonic Lodge.

Mary and I have traveled to and visited all 50 states.  Our travels have taken us to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, Puerto Rico and in two trips to Europe we visited 14 countries.  We do enjoy traveling.  We also enjoy visiting the family home in West Virginia, located on the South Branch of the Potomac River, where the bass fishing is great.

My Mom passed in 2008.  My Dad is still with us living in Columbia, South Carolina, along with my brother, Bill, and sister, Lois.  My other sister, Suetta, lives in Crozet, Virginia.
